Applications for the SFLS Judging list

If you wish to apply for inclusion on the SFLS Judges list, you will need to down load the SFLSjudgingquestionnarie and send this to judging@southernfinnishlapphundsociety.co.uk  Please send any updates to the same email address.

Meeting the criteria outlined by the SFLS does not mean automatic approval. The final decision for approval rests with the Judges Sub-Committee of the SFLS.

SFLS judges are asked to update their details every two years, using the above form and marked as UPDATE.

Judging List Criteria

These criteria apply to all relevant Lists, which are currently in place and run alongside the Judges Education Programme criteria

  1. All people to meet the criteria of a lower list before moving on to a higher list
  2. A condition of an applicant’s inclusion in the Society’s Judges Lists is that the applicant agrees to write a critique on their judging of the Breed and submits it to the canine press within the required time limit.
  3. For inclusion in A or B Lists, to have been observed judging by a representative of the club and a satisfactory report received.
  4. Requirements all to apply except under exceptional circumstances.

A1 List 
For persons who have previously been approved by The Kennel Club to award CCs in the breed and have completed their first appointment and to have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society. (KC Policy)

A2 List 
For persons who fulfil all the requirements for the A3 list and who have been assessed in accordance with Kennel Club requirements and accepted by The Kennel Club for inclusion on an A2 list and to have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society

A3 List
For persons who the Club would support as being suitable to award CCs in the breed but not yet approved by the Kennel Club for inclusion on the A2 List (KC Policy)

A3 List (Breed Specialists) 
Requirements include:

  1. Minimum of 7 years judging experience in the breed and have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society. (KC Policy)
  2. To have judged a minimum of 40 dogs.  (KC Policy – number optional by Club)
  3. To have attended at least one Breed Specific seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and hands on assessment where applicable. (KC Policy as of 1.7.2001)*
  4. To have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 dogs when they obtained their 1st entry in The Kennel Club Stud Book (save in exceptional circumstances). (KC Policy)
  5. To have stewarded at 12 Shows. (KC Policy)
  6. To have attended a seminar on Kennel Club Requirements of a Dog Show Judge given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the examination. (KC Policy).
  7. To have attended a Points of the Dog seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the assessment. (KC Policy)

A3 List (Non Specialists) 
Requirements include:

    1. Minimum of 7 years judging experience in any one breed (to include 5 years in this breed) and have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society.  (KC Policy)
    2. To have judged 40 dogs in this breed.  (KC Policy)
    3. To have awarded CCs in at least one other breed.  (KC Policy)
    4. To have attended at least one Breed Specific seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and hands on assessment where applicable. (KC Policy as of 1.7.2001)*
    5. Overseas judges must be approved to award Challenge Certificates (or their equivalent) for Finnish Lapphunds in their native country and have demonstrated an involvement in the breed and have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society.

B List
Indicates persons who have been approved by the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society to judge the breed at Open Shows or at Championship Shows without CCs for unlimited number of classes for the breed.

B List (Breed Specialists) 

  1. To meet the requirements of JEP Level 1
  2. To have attended at least one Breed Specific judging seminar and passed an examination where applicable.
  3. To have 5 years’ experience owning and exhibiting in this breed and have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society
  4. To have judged the breed on at least two occasions with a minimum total of 10 dogs present and judged.
  5. Overseas judges must be approved to award Challenge Certificates (or their equivalent) for Finnish Lapphunds in their native country and have demonstrated an involvement in the breed and have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society.

B List (Non Specialists) 

  1. To meet the requirements of JEP Level 1
  2. To have attended at least one Breed Specific judging seminar and passed an examination where applicable.
  3. Minimum of 5 years judging experience in any one breed and have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society.
  4. To have judged the breed on at least two occasions with a minimum total of 10 dogs present and judged.
  5. Overseas judges must be approved to award Challenge Certificates (or their equivalent) for Finnish Lapphunds in their native country and have demonstrated an involvement in the breed and have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society.

C List 

Eligible to judge up to three classes (four if one is a puppy class) for any breed.
Judge marked # have attended a breed specific seminar and therefore have the additional support of the SFLS.

  1. Meet the requirements of the JEP Level 1
    1. Minimum of five years proven interest in pedigree dogs.
    2. Attend a requirements of a dog show judge seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer (but not mandatory to take and pass examination).
    3. Attend a conformation and movement seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer.
    4. Complete a minimum of two full-day stewarding appointments.

C list Part 2
These are judges who have attended a breed specific seminar but do not meet all the mandatory criteria for Level 1 – and are therefore unable to judge from Jan 2021, but may have previously judged the breed, and would therefore receive support from the Society to judge at Level 1 or 2 as applicable once level 1 requirements are met.
