Class 1 PUPPY DOG (3 Entries) Abs: 0
1ST: Mowatt’s Tabanyaruu Tuukka Nuuka (AI) – 6 month old baby, a lot to like. Well set tail held high when on the move. 1 erect and 1 semi-erect ear nicely placed; the softest expression and dark eyes. Correct angulation front and back which showed in his movement. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Well off for bone. Coat wavy at the moment but plenty of time to change.  Best Opposite Sex Puppy
2ND : Manley’s Skimarque Talvi Susi – Skimarque Talvi Susi – 10 month. Another lovely puppy, wolf sable with attractive markings in lovely coat of correct texture and well prepared. Muzzle shorter than skull, ears well set. Excellent bone down to correct feet. Tailset high and carried well. I felt he was carrying too much weight today that affected his movement.
3RD: Gibsone’s Elbereth Sampo

Class 2 JUNIOR DOG (6 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: Critchlow & Sheridan’s Pavoskas Charleston – A handsome brown boy, eye colour to match his coat colour (but I would prefer slightly darker) Good stop on well-proportioned head. Neat ears. Correct spring of rib and depth of chest. Good bone down to well padded feet. High set tail carried well at all times. Profuse coat of correct texture and well prepared. Well handled
2ND: Thomas’ Elbereth Tuulenpoika – A striking marked boy of lovely breed type. Well laid back shoulder and medium length neck. Well muscled throughout, good bone and well arched feet. A soft expression enhanced by his dark eyes, well set ears. Very light on his feet, but didn’t extend out on the move or drive as well as first place.
3RD: Manley’s Skimarque Talvi Susi
Res: French’s Elbereth Timanttimaki
VHC: Woollard’s Infindigo Lintu Miika

Class 3 YEARLING DOG (4 Entries) Abs: 2
1ST: Critchlow & Sheridan’s Pavoskas Charleston
2ND: Woollard’s Infindigo Lintu Miika – A wolf sable boy of 16 months. Head of breed type with good proportions and dark eyes, masculine throughout. Well groomed. This boy was carrying too much weight which affected his movement, tended to move cow hocked.

Class 4 NOVICE DOG (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: Gibsone’s Elbereth Sampo – Wolf sable puppy, up to size for 9 months of age. Such a typical head for the breed with good width of muzzle, correct stop, dark eye and good pigment so well proportioned. His ears were heavily tipped for me, but still time to improve. His movement was erratic and difficult to truly assess. High set tail held well at all times. In good coat for his age, showing a good mane.
2ND: Lee’s Kaijartuu Taikuri –  no ring training at all so difficult to assess him. Would not settle on the move at all and made a dash for the nearest exit, which made his movement very erratic. His head proportions weren’t quite right for me, needed much shorter muzzle for true breed type. He had correct body length, good bone and well bodied, coat of correct texture.

Class 5 POST GRADUATE DOG (4 Entries) Abs: 0
1ST: Allison’s Oberitz Valkea Yo– Cream boy, excellent type. Correct eye shape and colour, lovely pigment. Showed excellent profile, with correct body shape, depth of chest and good length of leg, moderate neck and high set tail completes the picture, his profuse coat of the correct harsh texture. Well-muscled throughout which showed in his movement.
2ND: Critchlow & Sheridan’s Pavoskas Charleston
3RD: Samuel’s Oberitz Upponalle
Res Perkins’ Morval Salainen Intohimo

Class 6 LIMIT DOG (6 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: Feldberg’s Kaijartuu Revontulet – Took him a while to settle on the move, but when he did he moved so sound and true fore and aft. Pleasing head proportions, muzzle to skull proportions, eye shape and colour all meet the standard as does his soft expression. Correct shoulders well placed, good depth of chest leading to a good tuck up and in great muscle, short loin, high set tail held well at all times. Enough bone leading to correct well arched feet. His outline was enhanced by his coat, well prepared with good mane and trousers. Really shone in the challenge, My Best Dog and Best In Show
2ND: Critchlow & Duncan’s Pavoskas Britti Bandiitti – A handsome young man of excellent breed type. Wolf sable, attractive markings, coat of correct texture, full mane and trousers. His head proportions are pleasing dark eye, neat ears and soft expression. Body slightly longer than height and so well put together with correct angles throughout, showing in his brisk straight movement.
3RD: Thomas’ Elbereth Tuulenpoika
Res: Mitchison’s Kaijartuu Velho
VHC: Samuel’s Bridus Ukkonen ShCM

Class 7 OPEN DOG (4 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: Short’s Ch Glenchess Gregory –  A great example of the breed, pleasing head proportions, with wide set ears, dark eye and soft expression. Body of correct construction, front and rear angulation, depth of chest, well off for bone and well-padded feet. Moved straight and true from all angles. Coat of harsh texture with mane and trousers. Just lacked drive and sparkle in the challenge. My Reserve Best Dog.
2ND: Croft & Mowatt’s Tabanyaruu Onnea Kissa (AI) – a handsome boy, typical breed outline, good length of back and high set tail. Depth of chest in proportion to length of leg. Well off for bone, oval well padded feet. Typical soft expression, dark eye and correct ear set. Moved out well
3RD: Cooper & Critchlow’s Pavoskas Aly Arttu JW ShCM

Class 8 SPECIAL VETERAN DOG (7-9 YEARS) (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1ST: Jackson’s Multi Ch Elbereth Matkamies ShCM – a quality boy of excellent breed type. Muzzle shorter than slightly rounded skull, dark attractive eyes completing his soft expression.  Such a showman still at 9 years old, profile showing a good length to height ratio with good spring of rib. High set tail carried well at all times. Not in his best dress at the moment. His movement was stiff on the rear today.

Class 9 SPECIAL VINTAGE DOG (10+ YEARS) (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1ST: Cooper’s Elbereth Kippis to Pavoskas ShCM – what a character, not showing his age in his movement at all, strode out well with his handler. Typical breed type, soft expression, enough stop with dark eyes and neat ears set well. Not the biggest of boys, well-constructed with good lay back of shoulder and correct body length. Well groomed coat of harsh texture and profuse trousers and Mane. Best Opposite Sex Veteran

Class 11 PUPPY BITCH (6 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: Kennedy’s Lapponnia Halimede Keyza – Caught my eye as they all went round the ring for the first time, such a lovely profile on the move and correct side gait. Brown bitch just over 6 months. Head well layed out, with flashy markings. Well set neat ears. Good bone and pasterns. High set tail which was well up on the move. Coat coming through. My Best Puppy in Show
2ND: MacVicar Collingwood’s Elbereth Lumenlumo – Cream girl who was a real picture on the stand with good length of neck and high set tail. In good coat of harsh texture with plenty of feathering. Typical head proportions with dark pigment and dark eyes of correct shape. Moved OK, would benefit from more ringcraft to really get the best from her.
3RD: Graystone’s Morval Helena Keiju
Res: Mowatt’s Tabanyaruu Tuukka Ruuletti
VHC: Hall’s Sambreeze Black Magic

Class 12 JUNIOR BITCH (5 Entries) Abs: 2
1ST: Critchlow & Hallett’s Pavoskas Ceili JW – Wolf sable bitch of quality. Well constructed front quarters with good angulation and moderate neck. Slightly longer cast than ideal. Moved out very well with drive for her young handler. Pleasing head proportions  with slightly domed skull and oval dark eye. Out of undercoat at the moment, but enough to appreciate the harsh texture.
2ND: MacVicar Collingwood’s Elbereth Lumenlumo
3RD: Hall’s Sambreeze Snowball

Class 14 NOVICE BITCH (4 Entries) Abs: 0

Res: Sambreeze Black Magic

Held her tail well on the move. Slightly longer cast. Moved out well, showing off her well-constructed front and rear. Profuse coat of correct texture, with mane and profuse trousers and tail. Well presented.
2ND: Eaton & Mowatt’s Tabanyaruu Nekku Pikku
3RD: Lee’s Elbereth Lapintaika at Kaijartuu

Class 16 LIMIT BITCH (2 Entries) Abs: 2

Class 17 OPEN BITCH (6 Entries) Abs: 2
1ST: Thomas’ Ch Elbereth Pelinainen JW – winner of an amazing class of girls. This girl is so well balanced throughout, her faultless angulation and muscle, front and back shows so well in her movement. Good bone down to correct well-padded feet. Her head oozes breed type, dark eye, defined stop, well set ears and a cheeky expression. Immaculately presented in harsh coat with plenty of trousers and mane. She is everything you could want in a Finnish Lapphund Bitch. Best Bitch, Reserve Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex in Show.
2ND: Jackson’s Ch Tilkkuturkin Hallantuoma to Elbereth (Imp Fin) JW ShCM –  Another quality bitch that I have judged before. Such a handful at times for her handler. Classy head piece with correct stop, muzzle to skull ratio and slightly domed forehead. Ears are too close set for me. A picture in outline with her moderate neck set into correct shoulder. High set tail held well at all times. In good coat.
3RD: Allison’s Oberitz Trolleri
Res: Lee’s Ch Kaijartuu Hopea Noita

Class 18 SPECIAL VETERAN BITCH (7-9 YEARS) (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1ST: Allison’s Ch Oberitz Rillumarei – Pretty bitch, good angulation in shoulder presenting a medium length neck, with correct coat texture, and the most amazing feathering. Tail set high and held well at all times. Feminine head, dark eyes, short muzzle and slightly domes forhead, with neat well set ears. Moved close at the rear today.

Class 19 SPECIAL VINTAGE BITCH (10+ YEARS) (5 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: Cross’ Ch Elbereth Marja – A true old lady of the breed at nearly 12 years, who excels in all aspects. Her movement is so fluid, light and easy with drive. Her construction throughout is correct, angles balance her both on the stand and on the move. She has kind dark eye set well on her feminine head, neat well set ears. Her profile is completed with a high set tail, in good coat of harsh texture. A credit to her owner. Worthy of my Reserve best bitch and Best Veteran in Show.
2ND: Allison’s Oberitz Marimekko – another lady who belies her age. Brown coat of correct texture and well prepared. Such a soft expression, dark eyes for her coat colour, nicely proportioned muzzle and neat ears. Moved out well on well boned legs and well padded feet.
3RD: Moore’s Morval Fire Foxi
Res: Cooper’s Elbereth Alina at Pavoskas ShCM

Class 20 GOOD CITIZEN DOG SCHEME BITCH (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1ST: Thomas’ Elbereth Suvituuli JW – A smaller bitch but still had all the quality. In profile a good lay back of shoulder from a moderate neck. Good depth of chest, slightly longer in loin. Well feathered oval feet and high set tail carried well at all times. Pleasing head, would prefer slightly more width of muzzle. Dark eye, neat ear, one of which moved from up to tipped. Moved out well, straight and true. Not in her best coat today.

SPECIAL AWARD CLASSES
Judge: Evelyn Meikle (Lintukoto)

It was a real privilege to be asked to judge the special award classes at the SFLS Breed Open Show. A huge thank you to the exhibitors for such a fabulous entry. Having mixed dog and bitch classes was challenging, particularly as there is such variety in the breed. There were a few I found to be a bit more upright in shoulder and some tended to be carrying too much weight, which affected movement on the day. Every dog had a super temperament and that along with the friendly, fun atmosphere of the show made it an enjoyable day.

Class 25 SPECIAL AWARD JUNIOR DOG OR BITCH (12 Entries) Abs: 2
1ST: Thomas’ Elbereth Tuulenpoika – 15 month old dog with such an expressive head. Good skull to muzzle ratio with a nice stop. Nicely placed ears, that he used well. Lovely dark eyes and a correct scissor bite. Would prefer a slightly longer neck but that didn’t detract from his overall outline. Moderately laid back shoulder and correct depth of chest. Strong level topline. Tail is high set and carried over the back on the move. Lovely harsh coat developing. Moved very well which gave him the edge over 2.
2ND: Critchlow & Hallett’s Pavoskas Ceili JW – Critchlow & Hallett’s Pavoskas Ceili. 16 month old very feminine bitch with a lovely expression. Another with good skull to muzzle ratio. Nicely placed ears that she used well. Dark eyes and correct scissor bite. Good reach of neck. Moderately laid back shoulder and good depth of chest. Strong level topline. High set tail carried over the back on the move. Didn’t have the movement of 1.
3RD: French’s Elbereth Timanttimaki
Res: Manley’s Skimarque Talvi Susi
VHC: Graystone’s Morval Helena Keiju

Class 25 SPECIAL AWARD LIMIT DOG OR BITCH (9 Entries) Abs: 2
1ST: Critchlow & Duncan’s Pavoskas Britti Bandiitti – 2 ½ year old male who surprised me when I got my hands on him. Good skull to muzzle ratio with a nice stop. Well placed ears and such a lovely expression that he used to win me over. Very expressive dark eyes and correct scissor bite. Moderately laid back shoulder and correct depth of chest. Good for bone. Strong level topline. Tail is high set and carried over the back on the move. Moved so well round the ring.
2ND: Feldberg’s Kaijartuu Revontulet – 19 month old dog on the larger side. Good skull to muzzle ratio with a nice stop. Broader head but he carries it well. Nice dark eyes and correct scissor bite. Once you find the dog under the dense coat he has a moderately laid back shoulder and good depth of chest. Strong level topline. Slightly long in leg and not the proportions of 1. High set tail carried over the back on the move. Moved well.
3RD: Allison’s Oberitz Valkea Yo
Res: Perkins’ Morval Salainen Intohimo
VHC: Samuel’s Bridus Ukkonen ShCM

Class 26 SPECIAL AWARD OPEN DOG OR BITCH (12 Entries) Abs: 7
1ST: Cooper & Critchlow’s Pavoskas Aly Arttu JW ShCM – 3 year old male, another on the larger side. Skull to muzzle ratio is ok but I would prefer a broader muzzle. Good stop and expressive dark eyes. Well placed ears. Correct scissor bite. Another dog you have to go looking for under a dense coat, which reveals that he’s not as big as he seems. Moderately laid back shoulder with a good depth of chest. Strong level topline. Slightly long in back. High set tail covered in profuse hair that he carried over the back on the move. Moved effortlessly.
2ND: Jackson’s Ch Tilkkuturkin Hallantuoma to Elbereth (Imp Fin) JW ShCM – 3 year old very feminine bitch, who was so full of energy. Good skull to muzzle ratio with an excellent stop. Ears slightly high set. Lovely dark eyes and correct scissor bite. Good reach of neck. Moderately laid back shoulder and correct depth of chest. Good for bone. Strong level topline. Very nicely proportioned bitch. High set tail carried over the back when she moved. Didn’t have the finish or the movement of 1 on the day
