I had a fantastic entry on paper, 51 dogs but with 20 absent. However, the dogs I had left to assess were exciting in quality right from promising puppies through to the oldies, who were still looking fantastic over 10 years old. After getting home to look through my catalogue, it was not surprising to see so many had their Champion titles.  Some of the exhibits were far too overweight, it certainly wasn’t just all thick coat – they are a tough working breed and need to be fit for purpose. Some of the coats were disappointing with one or two with mats underneath the correct profuse and coarse top coat. Temperaments and dentition was excellent.  Thanks to my efficient steward Lyn Etches who kept things running so smoothly.

Class 1 PUPPY DOG (7 Entries) Abs: 3
1ST: OBERITZ KAAMOKSEN RUHTINAS (MRS N J ALLISON)
An excellent example to start the day, on his toes and well-schooled, with plenty of substance, strong skull, moderate stop, well set ears of good size and shape, excellent reach of neck, straight forelegs, good width to front, laid back shoulder, good return of upper arm, firm in back, strong quarters, best of tail sets, high and carried over the back on the move, coat of good quality, thickness and condition, sound and moving brisk and clean in all
directions. Pleased to award him a very well deserved BPIS. (Best Puppy in Show)

2ND: LIMISHKA VAINAMOINEN (MISS K L ANDERSON)
Another promising puppy of slightly lighter frame and bone,, well proportioned, strong neck, good ribbing and depth of chest, strong loin, appealed in head with a soft and friendly expression, dark eyes, ears set well apart, moved with good length of stride, carrying his tail up and over the back and was well furnished, just crabbing a little. Feet appear a little flat.

(1st in Puppy Dog)

Class 3 YEARLING DOG (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: LAPPONNIA LUNAR COSMOS (ALANNAH RUTTER)
Masculine, top size, balanced male with strong tapering muzzle, well placed eyes and ears, good deep brown eye colour and oval in shape, bright and inquiring expression, excellent bone and substance, good width of front well cushioned shapely feet, tail set preferably could be higher and not quite the forward reach and drive I was looking for.

Class 4 NOVICE DOG (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: LAPPONNIA LUNAR COSMOS (ALANNAH RUTTER)
(1ST in Yearling Dog)

2ND: LUMIKOIRA LUMILEIJONA (PIA & TIMO LONG)
I understand this was owner and dog’s first show and although 4th in Puppy, the dog settled down in this class which was very encouraging. A lot to like about him with excellent front and rear angles and good length of body, excellent reach of neck, super high tail set and well furnished. Medium bone, low set hocks, attractive markings which accentuated his keen and intelligent expression. Using his ears very well, a little longer in the muzzle than I’d like.  Just needs to do a lot more show ringcraft training to then be in contention for top prizes.

Class 5 POST GRADUATE DOG (1 Entries) Abs: 1

Class 6 LIMIT DOG (4 Entries) Abs: 0
1ST: KAIJARTUU IHMISSUSI JW (MR A LEE)
Smashing 2 year old male who really appealed in type, size, coat condition and
showmanship. Very attractive in head with a strong foreface, muzzle of good length,
distinct stop, strong in back skull, high well set ears which were constantly on alert, good
eye shape and dark brown in colour, strong front with good width, bone and slightly
sloping pasterns, strong hindquarters, well-muscled up and straight, medium length of
tail, carried well over the back in the stand and on the move, really good strong straight
rear action. (Best Dog, Reserve Best in Show, Best Opposite Sex)

2ND: INFINDIGO LINTU MIIKA ( MR A, MRS C & MISS M WOOLLARD)
Liked this one very much too, such a happy boy, in excellent profuse coat
and condition, plenty of substance about him, correct slight rounded forehead, with good
width and breadth of skull, using his ears well, extremely attractive head markings too,
strong back, well ribbed, not quite as good in rear angulation as 1 but put on a very good
performance to catch my eye. (Reserve Best Dog)

3RD : TABANYARUU QTAMO ONNI RL1.Ex (MISS S SISLEY-SMITH)
Res: THISTLEGLEN FRED (MR T & MRS K BRIGHT)

Class 7 OPEN DOG (3 Entries) Abs: 2
1ST: INFINDIGO MAILAT LOKI ShCM RL1Ex (MISS H BEASTALL)
Interesting to see this one has the same dam as 2nd in LD/RBD and possesses a lot of the same qualities, a really efficient and brisk mover in all directions, I can totally imagine him working in Lapland with the reindeer, slightly lighter frame but enough bone and substance, well-padded feet, strong forelegs, good depth of chest. Just tends to not use his ears as well as I’d like but a well presented and handled exhibit.

Class 8 SPECIAL VETERAN DOG (7-9 YEARS) (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: BRIDUS HEIKKI (MRS S H A LOCK)
In delightful condition and a very typy exhibit which ticked all my boxes, muzzle of correct length to head, good size ears that were continuously being used, gave that correct friendly expression, although those soft brown eyes ideally could be even darker, he is well muscled up, in profuse coat and with a decent tail set and carriage, a little close behind but this boy has got a lot left to give. (Reserve Best Veteran in Show)

Class 9 SPECIAL VINTAGE DOG (10+ YEARS) (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: ELBERETH TULIN KAUKAA FOR LIMISHKA (MISS K L ANDERSON)
Another super exhibit full of breed type, substance and style, very appealing in head with good oval eye shape, deep brown in colour, distinct stop and short muzzle, he’s balanced in side profile with a strong body and good rear with excellent tail set, his handler cleverly helping to make the best of him in the stack holding the tail up. In the best of coats and condition and was sound as a pound on the move but just not carrying his tail as high which spoilt the overall look.

Class 10 GOOD CITIZEN DOG SCHEME DOG(2 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: THISTLEGLEN FRED (MR T & MRS K BRIGHT)
Medium sized male enjoying his day out, well presented and handled, tapering muzzle, medium stop, ears could be higher set, decent bone, correct depth of chest, strong loin, coat is good with an abundant mane, excellent tail set and carriage in the stand and on the move. Would like a little more sparkle.

Class 11 PUPPY BITCH (5 Entries) Abs:2
A class of very promising young bitches, really close decision between all 3.
1ST: LIMISHKA KAREITAR (MRS S, MR P, MISS L NARDONE & MISS K ANDERSON)
Just pipped the others on her overall soundness and maturity, in glorious coat, well presented and handled, delightful head which was framed by high erect ears, well set eyes with the colour matching into her coat, tapering muzzle, excellent pigment, she has good bone, well cushioned feet, well laid back shoulders and good length of upper arm, strong topline, well ribbed, and medium angulation in the rear, she moved so accurately in all directions with a brisk and effortless – stride can’t wait to see her when she’s older. (Best Puppy Bitch and Best Opposite Sex Puppy in Show)

2ND: OBERITZ TUMMA RUHTINATAR (MISS N J ALLISON)
Litter sister to my choice for BPD and another cracker from this kennel, just needs to grow into her ears which appear a little large at the moment for her head, super intelligent expression and dark pigment, strong and straight forelegs, good reach of neck, good ribbing, strong quarters,
very eye catching in side profile movement, just tending to crab a little on the out and back.

3RD: TABANYARUU ZINI KUKKI (MRS S CROFT)

Class 12 JUNIOR BITCH (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: ELBERETH HUURREHUNTU (MR S JACKSON)
A very typy and stylish 16 month old pretty girl who despite leaving her coat at home, loved her confirmation and when she got it together on the move, showed some good reach and drive. Very expressive in head, with gorgeous medium sized ears that were well placed, good eye placement and
dark eyes, good breadth to her head too, best of neck lengths leading into well placed shoulders, strong firm backline, well ribbed, good depth of chest, medium bend of stifle, short hocks and high set tail and carriage. I’m told this win gave her her JW so well done.

2ND: OBERITZ TUMMA RUHTINATAR (MISS N J ALLISON)
(2nd in Puppy Bitch

Class 13 YEARLING BITCH (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: ELBERETH HUURREHUNTU (MR S JACKSON)
(1st in Junior Bitch)

2ND: INFINDIGO ONNEKAS KIELO ( MR A, MRS C & MISS M WOOLLARD)
I liked this one a lot too, very stylish and on her toes, with excellent head, neck, topline and high tail carriage which she also held on the move, good rear quarters that were well muscled and with excellent turn of hock, just a little clumsy with her front action coming towards and not quite as strong in rear action as 1.

Class 14 NOVICE BITCH (5 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: LIMISHKA KAREITAR (MRS S, MR P, MISS L NARDONE & MISS K ANDERSON)
(1st in Puppy Bitch)

2ND: TABANYARUU WIHTA MATISKA (MRS E MOWATT)
Pretty head with strong features, attentive to handler, intelligent expression, straight forelegs, well angulated rear, good depth of chest, crabbing rather a lot on the out and back and a little unsure when I went over her.

3RD: TABANYARUU UNELMA HANNELE (MRS J BEAUMONT)
Res: LUMIKOIRA INKI (MR A DOWNING)

Class 15 POST GRADUATE BITCH (4 Entries) Abs: 0
Disappointing class with a couple of them carrying too much weight.

1ST: TABANYARUU WIHTA KUU LAPSI (MISS S SISLEY-SMITH)
Litter sister to 2nd in ND. One of the few creams that were on show today, in full bloom, compact and every inch the showgirl showing off her virtues which included an attractive head and good tail set, she has strong well cushioned feet, excellent coat texture and presentation and a fluid stride.

2ND: TABANYARUU TUUKKA RUULETTI (MRS E MOWATT)
A little longer in body than 1 therefore she was able to truly reach out and show good drive on the move, rich coat colour, a touch plain in head, plenty of neck, good lay back of shoulder, high set and well furnished tail, short hocks.

3RD: PIKKUIHME TAHTIPOLY (MRS S H A LOCK)
Res: LAPPONNIA HALIMEDE KEYZA (MISS T KENNEDY)

Class 16 LIMIT BITCH (6 Entries) Abs: 4
1ST: TABANYARUU PILVI TILDAKOI (MRS J BEAUMONT)
Top size who is longer cast but well constructed with excellent front and rear assembly allowing her to move round the ring efficiently with a good stride, on her toes and with plenty of oomph. I liked her expression which was soft and friendly, muzzle could be a touch shorter in length and front could be straighter.

2ND: KESKIYO KOHTALO (MRS S GRAYSTONE)
This girl had plenty of substance but carrying too much weight under that thick coat, stood fore square on compact and oval shaped feet, striking head markings which highlighted an intelligent look, well set eyes and medium sized ears that were set well apart but she seemed distracted and didn’t use her ears too well, a little lack lustre on the move too.

Class 17 OPEN BITCH (5 Entries) Abs: 3
1ST: CH KAIJARTUU HOPEA NOITA JW (MR A LEE)
When I turned around and saw her standing, I thought “Wow”, she has everything.  Exceptionally well-schooled to get the very best from her, free stands so true and without assistance, so pretty but with plenty of bone and substance, gorgeous head with well-placed medium sized ears that she constantly used to work for her treats, darkest of brown eyes, good width to her front, good reach of neck leading into well laid shoulders
and good return of upper arm, firm topline, well bent stifles with good turn of hock and short hocks, tail set high and carried well over the back with beautiful furnishings, she moves so true in all directions and with an efficient brisk stride. I see she is an older sister to my Best Dog, I wondered why they looked so evenly matched in the challenge
for BIS. (Best Bitch and Best in Show)

2ND: CH ELBERETH LUMENLUMO JW (MRS F MACVICAR-COLLINGWOOD)
Another very beautiful bitch and so good to go over with excellent front and rear assembly, in hard condition and carrying correct weight, very stylish, with appealing head, lighter pigment to match her coat colour, superb tail set and carriage. She just lacked the showmanship of 1.

Class 18 SPECIAL VETERAN BITCH (7-9 YEARS) (4 Entries) Abs:1
1st: CH BRIDUS PIKKUMIMMI JW (MRS S H A LOCK)
Clear winner of this class, superb side profile shape, balanced and good size, with plenty of style and substance without coarseness, dripping in a thick profuse coat with a tougher overlay, you just want to smile when you look at her head, of excellent proportions with intelligent expression, short muzzle slightly tapering, deep brown eye colour to match her coat, one of the best straight fronts of the day too. She bellies her age, extremely well handled in the class to get the best from her. (Reserve Best Bitch and Best Veteran in Show)

2nd: LECIBSIN MEIKKI OF TABANYARUU (MRS J BEAUMONT)
Not in as good condition as 1 and showing her age a little, compact, just enough bone, correct slightly
sloping pasterns, pretty face with a well-defined stop, plenty of neck with a good depth of chest and length of tail.

3rd: ALKANTARA ILO MINA (MR T & MRS K BRIGHT)

2ND: TABANYARUU ZINI KUKKI (MRS S CROFT)
Was 3rd in strong PB class earlier in the day. Just a little more immature than the other girls and needs to settle on the move but a super pup. She performed way better in this class than she did at the start of the day. Good for substance, bone and well made front and rear with a good tail set and
pretty head. Think she will grow on to be a super dog.

Class 21 BRACE (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1ST: MRS S H A LOCK
Excellent matching pair who moved in unison and with almost exactly the same stride. Moving well together at the end of a long day.

2ND: MRS J BEAUMONT Another nice pair who made a good brace together.

Class 23 BREEDERS (0 Entries)
Class 24 SPECIAL OPEN DOG (0 Entries)

Judge: Mr Paul French.

Thank you very much to the Committee for my invitation to judge at a well organised and attended show. As an aspiring specialist judge, young in experience if not years, it is heartening to be supported by the Society. And thank you very much to my steward, Lyn Etches, for keeping me on the straight and narrow.
15 entries, with 4 absentees, was a good turnout. There were rather more bitches than dogs, which seems to be in line with the present trend. And a real variety of types, which is especially good for a novice to experience. All the exhibits were happy to be gone over by a novice judge, only one of them deciding to have a friendly conversation with me during the process. But the venue is not one that endears itself to assessment of movement. There is not enough space for the exhibits, or their handlers, to get into their strides, which is unfortunate. Assessment of the movement could also be helped by brighter lighting on the ring; it was a little difficult as a novice to assess dark coloured dogs with more solid coats when on the move.

Class 25 SPECIAL AWARD JUNIOR DOG OR BITCH (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: ELBERETH HUURREHUNTU (MR S JACKSON)
A classic looking wolf sable, nearly 18 months old. Overall slightly on the small side, but everything in perfect proportions and in the right place. Moved well and positively with a lively stride, and did not have to be encouraged. Stood even better. Attentive and bright demeanour, with expressive eyes and ears. Head slightly small, especially as quite full in the chest. Too much coat would have emphasised the difference, but coat was not too thick or profuse. Strong body with good top line and effusive high tail. Stood evenly and well. Second best of those that I judged on the day. Much to admire and sure to get better.

2ND: TABANYARUU ZINI KUKKI (MRS S CROFT)
A very young bitch, 7½ months old, with much to be pleased about but suffered in comparison with the more mature competition. I would love to see her up against her contemporaries. Youth showed in her very lively movement, but was plainly happy as demonstrated in her lovely expression. Very soft dark coat that will obviously develop. Good well-proportioned head, eyes and ears. Slightly small in the chest and rib, but nothing unexpected in one so young. Could possibly stand more evenly and squarely to show herself off at her best. One to watch.

Class 26 SPECIAL AWARD LIMIT DOG OR BITCH (9 Entries) Abs: 2
1ST: TABANYARUU QTAMO ONNI RL1.Ex (MISS S SISLEY-SMITH)
Very definitely a dog. When standing, everything about him says strength and muscle, from a well-proportioned strong head to a very solid body. Stood very well, with classic profile. Very profuse dark coat for a 4 year old, almost too full, but still does not hide his muscularity. Expressive head, with rounder eyes and well placed ears, albeit with a slightly narrow muzzle not helped by markings. Exceedingly solid in the chest, rib and back, all brawn and no flabbiness. Movement showed off his power even more, with an ease demonstrating that he is more than capable of a good day’s work. Best mover of the day, with such positive angulation and drive. A dog that gets better in the ring as he matures.

2ND: KESKIYO KOHTALO (MRS S GRAYSTONE)
Very solid for a bitch. Slightly long muzzle, but that can be down to the markings against her brown colouring and the rather gentler stop. Well-proportioned head, with bright, rounder eyes and expressive ears. Very solid in the chest and rib, under a rather profuse coat for a bitch, even for a 6 year old. Moved adequately.

3RD: LAPPONNIA HALIMEDE KEYZA (MISS T KENNEDY)
Another brown bitch with a very profuse coat more befitting an older dog than her 3 years. A firmer stop gave her head a good expression and profile, especially with her well placed and positively upright ears, albeit with a head overall on the small side. Good chest and shoulders, with good proportions. Back and top line were good. Stood well, but moved less so, which ultimately was the deciding factor between her and second-place.

Class 27 SPECIAL AWARD OPEN DOG OR BITCH (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1ST: CH ELBERETH LUMENLUMO JW (MRS F MACVICAR-COLLINGWOOD)
Dog of the day and a class act, even as a 3 year old. It starts with the good quality coat, which doesn’t have the softness of most cream bitches. A well-proportioned body, although the slightly long coat did make her look a little long in the body and short in the leg when standing, but not so when moving. A classically proportioned head with a wonderfully bright expression, helped by her well-defined stop. Eyes and ears both excellent, of good shape and size. More solid in the body than might be expected, but chest, neck and shoulders all well-proportioned. Superb top line. Moved well, with good front and rear angulation, carrying her tail high, but her movement was not to the same standard as her conformation. Delightful all round and little to fault on the day.

2ND: ALKANTARA ILO MINA (MR T & MRS K BRIGHT)
A very pretty mature wolf sable bitch, nearly 9 years old. Moved very well, but did not stand so well, being a little too wide in stance at the back. A well-defined head and muzzle, with her colour and markings showing them off to good effect. Well-structured with good proportions all-round, but a little slight in the chest and rib. Very good coat, both in texture and definition.  Charming.
