SFLS Open Show 2022

First, I would like to thank the hard-working committee for the invitation and possibility to come over and judge at the open show! The show venue was excellent and all arrangements from the very beginning to the end were in superb class. There wasn’t any moment where I could have been lost!

Finnish Lapphund is one of my favorite breeds. I really enjoy seeing and judging them in the ring. In Finland the breed is really popular, and you can see not only a nice variation of colors but also quite big scale in type. So keeping your focus in the right breed type is the key element when judging Lapphunds.

Type is something that is hard to describe but for me it means the correct proportions, good size (not too big, not too small) typical head profile, lovely topline with correct tail set and position, harsh and profuse coat and strong enough bones. With correct type and temperament plus the effortless movements you can think of Lapphund who is still capable of doing its work in all weather conditions together with his/her owner.

With this focus I did my judging also in this show and I was really happy to find such an excellent level and lovely temperament amongst the Lapphunds in the ring. You can be proud of the work you have been doing!

Excellent type and good proportions. Lovely, masculine head with good stop. Well set ears of good size. Dark eyes. Very good body, slightly long in loin. Excellent strong bones. Well angulated. Good, thick paws. Well set and carried tail. Lovely coat of excellent structure. Moves well.

Not a big boy but excellent masculine type. Good head, dark eyes and well-set ears of good size. Promising body. Good bone, feet and angulations. Beautiful tail. Nice coat. Moves okay.

Excellent type, strongly build. A bit short neck. Excellent strong bones. Good head, a bit round eyes and the muzzle could be stronger. Excellent coat structure. Balanced angulations. Moves with good drive.

Excellent type. Masculine head, strong, a bit short muzzle. Excellent stop, well-set ears of good size. Beautiful topline and tail set. Fore chest needs to develop with time to support elbows. Good angulations. Beautiful coat. Moves well.
