For information we understand that the Lappalaiskoirat ry, The Lapphund club of Finland (and Finnish kennel club) are proposing a change to the English translation for Suomenlapinkoira from Finnish lapphund to Finnish Lapponian dog. The English speaking breed clubs have been discussing the proposal at length and to summarise the views: we feel any change would create a lot of confusion and expense and as it appears the change was instigated because lapphund is not English word – when in fact neither is lapponian, we don’t see any need for change. A letter has been sent from all English speaking clubs to the Lappalaiskoirat ry (with copies to FCI and Finnish KC)
